If you are using ATI Rage card (ati, r128 drivers) and your X Window System crashes with the following error message:
(EE) R128(0): No DFP detected
Just try to solve it this way:
Check if your home directory contains file .xinit and if the file is empty, delete it. At least I solved this problem just by doing this.
This problem was encountered on RedHat Linux 7.3, running X 4.x.x version of XFree86
